Author John Green has published his first novel in 5 years. The new young adult novel “Turtles All the Way Down” was published October 10th. The story is about a 16-year-old girl with severe anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder trying to solve a mystery.

Other John Green books include “Looking for Alaska”, “An Abundance of Katherines”, “Paper Towns”, “The Fault in our Stars”, and books co-written by him “Will Grayson, Will Grayson” and “Let it Snow”. “The Fault in Our Stars” and “Paper Towns” have been adapted into film earning 85.5 million dollars and 307.2 million in the box office.

John Green has also struggled with obsessive-compulsive disorder and severe anxiety. Two years ago he had worse episodes of anxiety and OCD and after he recovered he began writing “Turtles All the Way Down” with a protagonist who has the same struggles.

John has a popular Youtube channel he shares with his brother Hank. The channel is “Vlogbrothers” and two videos are posted each week, one from John and one from Hank. John mentioned writing the book early in the year during a question and answer video, and occasionally gave updates on the progress, but did not reveal anything else about the book until closer to the release date.

“The Fault in our Stars” and “Paper Towns” books and movies are popular with teenagers including students at the school. I asked several students if they had seen “The Fault in Our Stars” or “Paper Towns” most answered yes and some also said they read the book. When I asked if they knew about the new book by the same author they said no but a majority also said they would be interested in reading it.
