Long Live The King

Black Panther opened in theaters on February 16th.  After the events of Captain America: Civil War, T’Challa becomes the king in the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda.  Characters from Black Panther will be in Avengers: Infinity War later this year.

The movie stars Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/ Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, and Letitia Wright as Shuri. The movie is directed by Ryan Coogler. He describes the movies central theme as responsibility and identity.  The movie earned over $200 million in the opening weekend and now has earned over $700 million.

The costumes, languages heard, and fighting styles in the movie were based off of different tribes in Africa. The director brought in consultants who are experts on African history and politics.

“I really liked the culture in the movie. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give this movie an 8.5.” says fellow student Victor Murillo.
