It’s the new year which is very exciting but more so because that means winter sports will be starting soon. Soccer, track and tennis members have already started conditioning and preparing for this season. Out of these sports, tennis members have been working really hard these past few days with try-outs and the start of conditioning happening.

Since last Monday, the tennis players have been conditioning very hard which consists of a drill with basics such as forehands and backhands. They then have time to practice hits with one another. Tennis coach of both the girls and boys team, Brittany Holley, is on her 3rd year coaching and stated that this year they received many new members still learning basics, but they also have a lot of potentials which is shown in practice every day. When asked what she was excited about this season, she said,

“I’m just excited to see how they do once they get to the matches.”

Sophomore Vanessa Chanon ,is a new member of the tennis team who is nervous yet excited for her first year playing. She stated that the team has been working on serving and throwing with the tennis ball machine, but that before they do that they must warm up by running a few laps. In terms of  how the coaches have been, Vanessa stated,

“Coach Holley has been really great with helping us serve and helping us with our backhands and forehands. She’s really good at instructing and complimenting us while also helping us correct what we’ve done wrong.”

The tennis matches have not started yet, but from the looks of it, it seems like both the girls and boys teams will have a great season. The players have been working hard improving their skills and are ready to go against other schools. Their first match will be February 5th versus Banks County at 4:30pm. Make sure to go support the tennis team.
