East Hall Viking Marching Band “Shatters” Competition


The East Hall High School Viking Marching Band had great success in their first competition at Armuchee High School on September 28th. The band took 2nd place overall out of the 13 participating band programs. Overall, EHHS had a successful night and at their 2nd competition and at the Lake Lanier Tournament of Bands, it was no different. The band took 1st place out of all the competing bands and received an overall score of 95.8.


The band’s show entitled “Shattered” goes takes you through a tragic love story. The beginning of the show features the song’s “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri, and “Need You Right Now” by The Chainsmokers ft. Daya. The start of the show depicts how well the relationship is going, the couple is in love and nothing can go wrong. The show then takes a turn when the couple fights and breaks up, represented by the song “Bad Blood,” by Taylor Swift. The show ends by the person in this relationship realizing she doesn’t need anyone to be happy. To end the show the band performs “Centuries” by Fall Out Boy. 


The Viking Marching band was the last to perform out of the competing bands, and ended the night well. East Hall was one out of the 2 bands in open class along with Oconee County. Band classes are determined by the size of your band, the difficulty of your music and other factors. Their is Single A, 2A, 3A, 4A, and Open Class. East Hall received 2nd place in our class in the categories following: Drum Major, Color Guard, and Band. They received 1st place in Percussion. The Viking Marching Band then received the best score out all the competing bands, their score beating Oconee by just .4 .


“I was really nervous, but excited when we got the overall best score,” says Color Guard member, Litzy Martinez. 


Overall, the band has great success with their second competition. The Marching Band will have their last competition at the Hurricane Classic Competition at Monroe Area High School on October 26th. The band hopes they can continue their success going and do well at their last competition for the 2019-2020 school year.
