On December 20, 2019, the national age to buy tobacco was raised from 18 to 21. This applies to all Tobacco products, including E-Cigarettes and Vaping cartridges. It came with a 1.4 Trillion dollar spending package signed by Donald Trump. 19 States had already raised the Age to 21. This will mark a major public service achievement for the White House. 

Cigarettes cause many deaths because of lung cancer in younger, undeveloped adults. When someone is about 25 years old is when their brain is fully developed. An excremen from an Article from the American Lung Association, said, “In March 2015, a report from the National Academy of Medicine revealed that ‘Tobacco 21’ could prevent 223,000 deaths among people born between 2000 and 2019, including reducing lung cancer deaths by 50,000. This landmark report provided the science to support our advocacy efforts.” Also, Vaping is a newer thing where young people are using it, and not knowing the long term effects. Vaping has already caused a problem in the United States, which is why they included vaping in the raise of age.

Most people who smoke had their first cigarette before 18, and usually supplied by an 18 or 19 year old. Mr. Adam Rich, the Discipline principal at East Hall High School, Says the raise would hopefully make Vaping devices and cigarettes harder to attain on campus, as most younger people had the tobacco from 18 year olds. Raising the age will make it to where seniors in high school cannot buy tobacco. In 2019, There were two people to go to the hospital for using vaping devices, most likely gotten by seniors.

The Tobacco age raise has marked a spot in U.S history. It will help the population drastically as underage people were getting these products. Tobacco products will always be unsafe, but the raise will help substantially in the health department. Most people will not like it, but it will save lives.
