Andre’s 5 likes: DBZ Characters

Dragon Ball has been around for about 34 years, and those  years came with a huge cast of characters from Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Super, and the Dragon Ball Movies. These characters have been loved or hated by many, whichever way you wanna look at it. Here are my 5 favorite Dragon Ball characters:

  1. Cell (Dragon Ball Z, GT)

The android that considers himself “The Perfect Being”. Cell is the ultimate creation of Dr. Gero, who came from a future timeline, designed using the genetics of the greatest fighters to have been present on Earth that the remote tracking device could track down; the result was a “perfect warrior”, possessing numerous favorable genetic traits and special abilities from Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Frieza and King Cold (Frieza’s father). He was one of the few Red Ribbon Androids not directly completed by Dr. Gero; he was completed by Dr. Gero’s Supercomputer. He is the main antagonist of the Cell Saga. Cell’s desire to complete his evolution by absorbing both Android 17 and Android 18 is what fuels him in his imperfect form. Upon reaching his final form, his eagerness to test the limits of his newfound power is what defines his character. Cell is unique among most villains of the series in that he is quite sophisticated. Because of his genetic composition from other warriors, he is able to psychologically manipulate those warriors and exploit their weaknesses to his advantage.

  1. Vegeta (Dragon Ball Z, GT, Super, Movies)

He calls himself “The Prince of all Saiyans” that has so much pride to back it up. Vegeta is the prince of the fallen Saiyan race and one of the major characters of the Dragon Ball series. He is the older brother of Tarble, the husband of Bulma, the father of Trunks and Bulla, and the ancestor of Vegeta Jr. Alongside Goku, Gohan, Bulma, Krillin, and Piccolo, he is easily one of the most prominent characters in the series, receiving more character development after being introduced than a number of other characters. Vegeta was once a ruthless, cold-blooded warrior and outright killer, but later abandons his role in the Frieza Force. instead opting to remain and live on Earth, fighting alongside the universe’s most powerful warrior, specifically with the mission to defeat and surpass Goku in power. His character evolves from villain, to anti-hero, to a hero through the course of the series. Vegeta is arrogant throughout the series, and becomes bitter due to the abuse his race suffered at the hands of Frieza. Following the destruction of his home world Planet Vegeta, his hatred toward Frieza grows. His royalty seems to have bestowed upon him an inflated sense of superiority, holding himself above nearly everyone he encounters. He is immensely proud of his Saiyan heritage and believes his race to be the most powerful in the universe. Besides all of that, when it comes to his family, he protects them with all of his might and power, and will never let anyone hurt them.

  1. Gogeta (Dragon Ball Movies, GT)

The one and only “ultimate fusion” between two of the strongest characters in Dragon Ball Z. Gogeta is the resulting fusion of Goku and Vegeta, when they perform the Fusion Dance properly. His voice is a dual voice containing both Goku and Vegeta’s voices. Gogeta appears in the movies Fusion Reborn, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, and the last saga of Dragon Ball GT. Like his Potara counterpart, Vegito, he is regarded as one of the most powerful characters in the whole Dragon Ball franchise. Although made in a similar fashion, Gogeta’s personality traits are different from those of Vegito, though it is impossible to tell which counterpart’s personality is the dominant one or a composite of both Goku and Vegeta, but in terms of humor and a lesser tough attitude, Gogeta acts and uses catch phrases more similar to Goku.

  1. Frieza (Dragon Ball Z, GT, Movies, Super)

The so-called “Emperor of the universe” and the hater of saiyans. Frieza is the emperor of Universe 7, who controlled his own imperial army and is feared for his ruthlessness and power. He’s the second son of King Cold and the younger brother of Cooler. Frieza is the catalyst antagonist of the entire franchise, as it is his actions that led to Goku arriving on Earth. He has made several comebacks since his fight with Goku on Namek, including multiple invasions of Earth. This makes him the most recurring villain of the Dragon Ball series. After the events of the Tournament of Power, he is revived and recovers his title as Emperor of Universe 7. Frieza is one of the villains in the series who possesses an entire range of transformations, each one being quite different than the others. Unlike most primary antagonists, Frieza displays a civilized and refined demeanor, talking with a regal and eloquent nature. He tends to handle most situations with a methodical approach. He commonly utilizes dark humor, making twisted jokes and tasteless mockery of his foes before killing them. Frieza is fully aware of his reputation for brutality, and makes no effort to deny it, but rather revels in it as evidenced by his introduction to the Namekians. Likewise, he has shown great anger at the idea of his cruel deeds being undone, such as the revival of all his previous victims from the Dragon Balls. Frieza can be best summed up as an intelligent, composed , yet extremely sadistic and completely heartless psychopath.

  1. Goku Black(Dragon Ball Super)

The self-proclaimed “true definition of a god”, destined to complete his “Zero Mortal Plan”. Goku Black is the main antagonist of the “Future” Trunks Saga of Dragon Ball Super. His true identity is the original present Zamasu, a former North Kai and Supreme Kai apprentice serving the Supreme Kai of Universe 10, Gowasu, from the unaltered main timeline, in which he stole the body of the original present Goku with the Super Dragon Balls and sought to destroy all mortals alongside Future Zamasu. He was then given the name “Goku Black” by Future Bulma when he initially referred to himself as Goku. Goku Black has a transformation called Super Saiyan Rose, he described it as beautiful, towering above “the whole universe”, and stated to Goku that he should rejoice, as he had reached the height of beauty by his hand. Before acting on his dark impulses, as Zamasu, he was a calm and patient individual, willing to listen to his teacher’s words. However, he long harbored an utter hatred for mortals, perceiving them as a blasphemy and the gods’ greatest mistake. He became much more emotional upon taking Goku’s body and becoming Goku Black, gaining many opposite characteristics to his host body’s personality. Like his future counterpart, he is extremely sadistic, callous, bloodthirsty, and hypocritical, as seen when he kills Bulma, along with the vast majority of the Earthlings, believing it to be “justice”, despite his blood-lusting delight in it and his delight in Goku’s anger over him killing Chi Chi and Goten. He showed a sense of brutality and certainly ruthless savagery, when he coldly tortures his foes/target, hoping to extend the pain and suffering.
