Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Review

Sonic has been the hearts of fans for about 29 years. Whether you love him or hate him, the blue blur is one of the most popular gaming characters in the world. Like most gaming characters, Sonic the Hedgehog is now part of the big screen. The Sonic the Hedgehog movie was released in theaters on February 14th and, so far, the movie has received positive feedback.

Sonic the Hedgehog is a 2020 action-adventure film based on the video game franchise published by Sega. The film is directed by Jeff Fowler. It stars Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog and Jim Carrey as Doctor Robotnik, as well as James Marsden and Tika Sumpter.

The film was originally going to be released on November 15th of last year. However, fans thought the movie was gonna be mediocre or bad, mainly because of how Sonic’s design was when they first released the first official poster and trailer. When fans first saw how Sonic looked, they instantly knew that the movie was gonna be a bust. The hate comments and remakes were so bad, that Paramount Pictures decided to delay the release of the movie just so that they could fix Sonic’s design. Luckily, around November of that year, Paramount Pictures released a new official trailer for The Sonic the Hedgehog movie, with a new and improved design for Sonic, with that, Sonic fans had more hope for the movie.

The film received praise from critics for the cast’s performances , Sonic’s design, and faithfulness to the source material, but criticism for its plot and perceived lack of originality. The film has grossed $128 million worldwide, and set the record for the biggest opening weekend by a video game-based film in the United States and Canada.

A few people had their thoughts about the movie, whether they liked it or not.

East Hall Senior Emiliano Perez says “Sonic looks way better than how they originally had him. At first, I had doubt that this movie was gonna be great, mainly because of how Sonic looked before, but now, I believe that the movie looks great, and I would like to see it”

East Hall Senior Jaden Bales says “I saw the preview and I thought it might be a good twist on the classic Sonic. I love the fact that the legend Jim Carey is Doctor Robontik, which makes the movie ten times better. I was excited when it came out in the theaters and would like to watch it one day.”

Personally, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie is one of the many positive focal points in Sonic’s career. I love the Ben Schwartz voice for Sonic, he sounded like he was actually Sonic and I love Jim Carey as Doctor Robonik as he blends in with the character with his great humor. The movie itself was a great success and hopefully it’ll be coming up with a great sequel soon.
