Naruto has been around for 23 years and the series brought the fans with a cast of characters as it gradually goes up over the years from Part 1 to Boruto. Mainly every character in the series has been through alot whether it was new abilities, character development, or situations in the “Shinobi World”. Here are my five favorite Naruto characters throughout the series:

  1. Obito Uchiha (Naruto Shippuden)

The Uchiha was “mostly dead” and brought back as a shinobi that is considered “Madara” for most of his life. Obito Uchiha  was a member of the Uchiha clan. He was believed to have died during the Third Shinobi World War, his only surviving legacy being the Sharingan he gave to his teammate, Kakashi Hatake. In truth, Obito was saved from death and trained by Madara Uchiha, but the events of the war left Obito disillusioned with reality, and he inherited Madara’s plan to create an ideal world. Resurfacing under the names of Tobi and Madara Uchiha himself, Obito subtly took control of the Akatsuki, using them as a means to advance his plans, eventually going public and starting the Fourth Shinobi World War. However, towards the war’s conclusion, Obito had a change of heart and, as atonement, sacrificed his life to save the same world he sought to replace. When Obito was a kid he was marked by dreams of being acknowledged. This motivated him to become a ninja so that he could, in turn, become Hokage and have the entire village finally recognise him. When Rin acknowledged him regardless, Obito fell in love with her and aimed to earn her love in addition to the Hokage title. After the death of Rin by the hands of his friend/rival, Kakashi, Obito’s dreams were shattered. From then on into his adulthood, he became more calm and focused, no longer caring about his village, his friends, or even his name, all of them being worthless parts of a miserable world that had forced Rin to die at the hands of a person she loved. His sole commitment was to Madara’s Eye of the Moon Plan and the new peaceful world it would create. However, during the Fourth Great Ninja War, he fought Naruto who had the same motives as him when he was a kid. When he lost to him, Obito  came to understand that Naruto’s way of thinking was right all along and decided to fight alongside Naruto to defeat Madara and the upcoming threat, Kaguya. Unfortunately, during the fight with Kaguya, Obito sacrificed his life to protect saying that he’s “the future” in the shinobi, finally reuniting with his lover Rin in the afterlife.

  1. Hashirama Senju (Naruto Part 1, Naruto Shippuden)

Better known by others as the “Ninja God” and one of the co-founders of the Hidden Leaf Village. Hashirama Senju was a member of the famed Senju clan. He himself was hailed as the “God of Shinobi” for his unmatched ninja prowess. Hashirama sought peace for the shinobi world, and to that end founded the Hidden Leaf Village with his clan, his childhood friend and rival, Madara Uchiha, and the Uchiha clan. He would later become the First Hokage of the Hidden Leaf. Although he was not able to achieve peace during his lifetime, his legacy and vision for the world would continue to shape the village and the entire shinobi world even after his death. During his time as Hokage, Madara betrayed the Hidden Leaf which caused both of them to engage into battle of death with Hashirama as the victor. When Orochimaru attacked the Hidden Leaf, he brought back Hashirma along with his brother and Second Hokage of the Hidden  Leaf, Tobirama, to fight against the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi. During the Fourth Great Ninja War he was brought back again by Orochimaru with the reanimation jutsu along with the Second, Third, and Fourth Hokage to aid in the battle against Obito and Madara. Hashirama was an excitable man with a boisterous personality. He loved meeting new people, having friendly competitions, and gambling. Headstrong and often impulsive, it fell to others such as his brother, Tobirama to be more responsible or realistic about things that Hashirama had gotten carried away with. Despite the first impression he may give, Hashirama was capable of being serious when it came to matters that were important to him.

Sasuke Uchiha(Naruto Part 1, Naruto Shippuden, Boruto: The Next Generation)

The man who protects the Hidden Leaf Village in the shadows. Fun Fact: I have the same birthday as Sasuke, July 23rd. Sasuke Uchiha is one of the last surviving members of the Uchiha clan. After his older brother, Itachi, slaughtered their clan, Sasuke made it his mission in life to avenge them by killing Itachi. He is added to Team 7 upon becoming a ninja and, through competition with his rival and best friend, Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke starts developing his skills. Dissatisfied with his progress, he defects from the Hidden Leaf so that he can acquire the strength needed to exact his revenge. His years of seeking vengeance and his actions that followed become increasingly demanding, irrational and isolates him from others, leading him to be branded as an international criminal. After learning the truth of his brother’s sacrifice, later proving instrumental in ending the Fourth Great Ninja War, and being happily redeemed by Naruto, Sasuke decides to return to the Hidden Leaf and dedicate his life to help protect the village in the shadows, becoming referred to as the “Supporting Kage”. Sasuke was a happy child, eager to please and be worthy of his family name. This changed after his entire family was killed by his older brother, Itachi, the person he most admired in the world. He became cold toward others, unmoved by and uninterested in what they do or think of him, choosing instead to keep to himself. His only goal in life became to take revenge for his family’s deaths and, by extension, acquire the power needed for that revenge, even if it meant acquiring an external power that wasn’t his own. As he grew older in his teen ages, he became more demanding and stubborn, doing anything he possibly could to get what he wants, even if it meant killing people in the process. When he became an adult, he became more calm and talked less, along with that he’s a family man as he has a wife, Sakura Haruno, and a daughter, Sarada Uchiha.

  1. Naruto Uzumaki (Naruto Part 1, Naruto Shippuden, Boruto: The Next Generation)

The main character of the series and a character I personally look up to because of his “never give up” attitude. Naruto Uzumaki is a shinobi of the Uzumaki clan. He became the jinchuriki of the Nine-Tails on the day of his birth, a fate that caused him to be shunned by most of the Hidden Leaf throughout his childhood. After joining Team Kakashi, Naruto worked hard to gain the village’s acknowledgement all the while chasing his dream to become Hokage. In the following years, through many hardships and ordeals, he became a capable ninja regarded as a hero both by the villagers, and soon after, the rest of the world, becoming known as the Hero of the Hidden Leaf He soon proved to be one of the main factors in winning the Fourth Great Ninja War, leading him to achieve his dream and become the village’s Seventh Hokage. Naruto is relatively naive, simple, and slow to understand principles or situations. He often requires an oversimplified analogy in order to grasp explanations, and can even forget some concepts that he himself noted earlier if he is too emotional. Naruto is aware of his faults, and admits he acts strong to mask his embarrassment and frustration about them. Despite his naivety, Naruto can be quite observant, picking up on things others miss and retaining information casually gathered through conversation. On top of that, Naruto has a “never give up” attitude and always strives to get better as he grows older. As an adult, he became more mature and more aware of situations and having solutions of getting out of them. Naruto is married to Hinata Hyuga, who had a crush on Naruto ever since they were kids, a son, Boruto Uzumaki, and a daughter, Himawari Uzumaki.

  1. Minato Namikaze (Naruto Shippuden)

Personally, along with Hashirama, he was one of my favorite Hokages in the series. Minato Namikaze was the Fourth Hokage of the Hidden Leaf. He was renowned all over the world for his speed, leading him to be dubbed as Leaf’s Yellow Flash. He died during the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox’s Attack, sacrificing his life to seal a part of the Nine-Tails into his newborn son, Naruto Uzumaki. He was brought back to life by Orochimaru along with the First, Second, and Third Hokages to aid the Shinobi Allied Forces in the Fourth Great Ninja War. Along with that he fell in love with a girl named Kushina Uzumaki and later had a child, Naruto Uzumaki. Despite his physical resemblance to Naruto, Minato was more perceptive and collected than his son as a child; Jiraiya said that Minato was a shrewd person, not one to do something without a reason. He was well aware of the terror his reputation inspired in rival villages and would take advantage of it at times, but even then he would remain respectful to opponents. Minato also wouldn’t pry into other people’s personal affairs unless he felt it was necessary,  and was not the type to hold grudges. Naruto is not without any of his father’s personality traits: both have indomitable spirits and fierce ambitions that drive them through all their choices in life. Both are of unwavering loyalty to Konoha and their loved ones friends and family.
