SHIELD Spotlight: Maria Perez

East Hall is highlighting six special students that embody S.H.I.E.L.D. As we’ve heard every morning for the past two years, S.H.I.E.L.D stands for strength, honor, integrity, effort, loyalty, and determination. The students chosen embody one, two, or even all six of these characteristics for what they do in class and at our school. Students are chosen anonymously by their teachers and plan to be chosen twice a month.

For the first round of S.H.I.E.L.D Spotlight, Senior Maria Perez was chosen from those around her for how she embodies these characteristics each and every day.

Q: What does SHIELD mean to you?
A: SHIELD to me means more as in respect, obviously, for East Hall. Showing motivation around school, positivity, trying to get out there, and put yourself out there for others as well.

Q: How do you think you embody SHIELD?
A: I do my work, I show up to school, and put an example for others.

Q: Why do you think you were chosen?
A: I honestly don’t know.

Q: Did you expect to be picked?
A: No, I was like “wait what?” I was very surprised.

Q: How would you encourage others to embody SHIELD?
A: I encourage other students to show up to school, do your work, put an example for others, obviously, goals so they know what they’re trying to achieve, and do anything possible to make it happen.

All in all, Maria is a great representation of what our school honors and wants to show off.

As a show of appreciation for what they do and represent, all students chosen will receive a free shirt that gets them free entry to any event held at East Hall. We hope to keep spotlighting great students that represent our school’s code of honor and do great.
