SHIELD Spotlight: Israel Hernandez


Israel Hernandez is a Senior here at East Hall High School and is one of the 6 students chosen who represent S.H.I.E.L.D best. Each morning, students are reminded to follow S.H.I.E.L.D which stands for Strength, Honor, Integrity, Effort, Loyalty, and Determination. Israel was one of the students chosen who is exemplary and follows the saying well. Students chosen for this honor will have their picture posted in the hallway to reward them for their hard work. Israel is one of the people who easily deserve this honor from his work in the church community, to lifting his peers up everyday at school. He comes to school and chooses to live by S.H.I.E.L.D.

Q: What does SHIELD mean to you?

A: “SHIELD is a motivator to work hard everyday and is used as an example from our teachers who encourage us to base our core values around what they are saying.”

Q: Do you think you Embody SHIELD?

A: “I think I embody S.H.I.E.L.D by trying to be a good leader, making myself better, and choosing to work hard everyday.”

Q: Why do you think a teacher selected you for this?

A: “I think I was chosen because of my grades, my effort, the fact that I’m willing to push myself, and how I encourage others.”

Q: Did you expect to be picked?

A: “I try and work hard so I was expecting it.”

Q: How would you encourage others to use SHIELD?

A: “I would encourage everyone to give their all, have strength, and persevere through everything.”

Israel is deserving of this honor and chooses to raise his SHIELD each day and work hard every day. As a reward for winning a SHIELD spotlight, Israel will have his picture displayed in the hall and receives a shirt that will allow access into school events. Vikings, continue to raise your SHIELD each and everyday.
