Reviewing the Met Gala Looks

The Met Gala is an annual event that fundraises for a new exhibit for The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It takes place on the first Monday in May, but due to COVID-19, the event was cancelled last year and this year was moved to September 13.  However, fans really care about the extravagant outfits worn by A-list celebrities, designed by some of the best fashion designers in the world. Every year, there is a theme; this year’s theme is In America: A Lexicon of Fashion. Vogue has 182 pictures of the Met Gala looks. To save time, I’ve picked out some of my favorite and least favorite outfits, along with some honorable mentions.

Let’s start off with Lil Nas X’s outfits. Montero Lamar Hill, or Lil Nas X, is a rapper who is best known for his hit song “Old Time

Road” remix with Billy Ray Cyrus. He started off with a huge cloak that to me resembles a king in the 1500s. An outfit change, and his second outfit is a shiny gold suit. It reminds me of a superhero toy, but I’m rocking with it. Another outfit change, and his third outfit was a sparking catsuit. It was an amazing end to his series of looks, courtesy of Versace.

Next, I have Emma Chamberlain. She is an internet personality, her main platform being Youtube. The overall pattern and style of her dress is gorgeous. Her hair and makeup really completes the look. Her look is from Louis Vuitton.

Out of all the more than 180 outfits, my all time favorite is Lili Reinhart’s dress, designed by Christian Siriano. It is composed of flowers from all fifty states. A way to follow the theme while being classy. 10 out of 10.

Other celebrities that ran with the theme were Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), Debbie Harry, Dan Levy, and Megan Rapinoe. Speaking of the midfielder for the Women’s National Soccer Team, there were many athletes and The Met Gala: Nia Dennis, Sunni Lee, Venus and Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka, Stephen Curry, and Simone Biles.

However, there were some outfits that I just didn’t like. Frank Ocean’s outfit was fine, but he brought a creepy green doll with him. Kim Kardashian was covered head to toe in black cloth. The look was interesting, but it was, well… and boring. 3 out of 10.

I can admit, I didn’t have many that I didn’t like, but I do have honorable mentions: Kendall Jenner, Meghan Thee Stallion, Normani, Olivia Rodrigo, Rosalía, Gigi Hadid, Ciara, and Irina Shina.

To wrap it up, the Met Gala had good outfits. I just wished that there were more outfits that made my face drop. To see all of the Met Gala looks, I have linked the Vogue article link at the end of this article. What were some of your favorite Met Gala looks?
