On October 16, the competition cheer team competed at North Hall High school against Sequoyah, North Hall, Gainesville, and Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy in the JV division. Their routine was performed very well, although there were some mistakes. They placed third overall.

Katie Pruitt is the only senior on the team this year. That means that she will have to be a leader to the younger teammates, especially since there are many underclassmen on the team this season. “[The team’s performance] It was really good. We tried and that’s what mattered,” she said after competing. She is a flyer, and has been in the program for 4 years.

The cheerleaders received so much support from their families and the community. Brad Stanley, one cheer dad said,”I just love being a cheer dad.” As the cheer team came out to the floor, he yelled out,”Go Braylin!!”. He has been a cheer dad for 6-7 years.

Becky Pruitt, Katie’s mom, comes to all her competitions to support her. When asked what was the best thing about being a cheer mom, she said,”Watching my child grow, not only in cheer, but in other areas.” Justin Gilbert, Katie’s boyfriend, also comes to all of her competitions. Jamie Morre was also asked the same question, and she responded,”Just being able to support your daughter.” Her daughter, Sydney, was an allstar cheerleader for many years, so she’s an experienced cheer mom. Sydney is a flyer and this is her second year with the program.

Some alumni that have been on the team were also at the competition. “I haven’t seen them that much,” One of the former cheerleaders said ,”But they’re putting in their best out there……I’m just so proud of them.”

Unfortunately, due to low numbers, the JV and Varsity squads were combined into one team with 18 members. This season, the team got stunning new uniforms. Last weekend, they competed at Dawson County High School in the 4A division and got second place. This Saturday, they are competing at Loganville High School.
