On Friday, the boys soccer team lost to Northwest Whitfield 5-1 overtime in the Final Four. While hopes were high that they would return to the championship game, the team had a good playoff run.

“We knew that being a number four seed, the road to state will be tough, but we also knew that we weren’t a normal 4-seed”, Coach Henry said ,”We played a difficult schedule, and we also knew that we could play any other team in the state at any given night.”

In the first round of state playoffs, the Vikings beat Number-1 seed Druid Hills, which was decided on penalty kicks. Jonathan Torres scored a goal in the second overtime, tying the game. East Hall won on penalty kicks 4-3, with Kenny Barrera not only scoring the winning kick, but also saving a kick.

In the Sweet Sixteen, they beat Number 2 seed Spalding 3-2. Ranferi Lara-Chavez scored in the 14th minute of the game. In the second half, after the Jaguars tied the game 1-1,  Justin Torres and David Loza scored goals off of assists a few minutes later.

In the Elite Eight, the Vikings shutout Benedictine Military 3-0. Jonathan Torres and Eden Castrejon scored goals in the second half, while Ranger Lara-Chavez scored a penalty kick in the second half.

In the Final Four, the team traveled to Tunnel Hill to play against Northwest Whitfield. Justin was handed two yellow cards, then Jonathan was handed a red card, leaving the team with just nine players. Despite that, they were able to tie the game with a free kick from Lara-Chavez.
