It’s About Time! Football starts off the season with a win!

Last Friday, after a 1-9 season last year, the varsity football team started off the season with a 19-14 win against West Hall.

The game, hosted by West Hall, started off really close until the Spartans scored a touchdown with six minutes to go. About a few minutes later, sophomore quarterback Peyton Llewallyn threw for 38 yards to senior Temeris Morrision for a touchdown. The score was 6-7 at the end of the first quarter. Llewallyn has so much to prove this season as he is taking on quarterback after Clete Cooper graduated last year. In the second quarter, Jamarcus Harrison threw the ball to Alex Stoudenmire for a touchdown.

At halftime, the score was 12-7. From halftime, the Vikings held on to their lead. Sophomore Caden Crocker had a pick-6 for the touchdown. A pick-6 is when the defense intercepts, or takes the ball for a touchdown. This is his first touchdown with the varsity football team. The Spartans scored in the fourth quarter, but that didn’t make a difference because the Vikings won at the end, running out the clock. This is Coach Turner’s second season, and he has been facing pressure after a rough first season with the Vikings.

The offense put up 281 yards, while the defense only had 285 yards, causing some turnovers. Similar to last season, there is plenty of young talent on the team.

The next football game will be the first home game of the season. The Vikings will play against the Johnson Knights on September 2 at 7:30 p.m. The student section theme will be Construction. Come out to support the Vikings!
