New Teacher Feature: Jennifer Moore

I’m sure you are all curious about our new science teacher, Mrs. Moore! She originally didn’t want to be a teacher and told herself it was something that she would never do. Ladies, gents, and everything in between, we all tell ourselves that we’ll never do this or that. In this case, never say never. She has done almost everything she said she would never do. It could turn out to be something you enjoy.

Mrs. Moore did a couple of things before she started working here at East Hall High school, such as being a bank teller, working at poultry times in Gainesville, and as a cross-country coach, but life was drifting her toward teaching. At this time she had kids and it was hard finding a babysitter as it was. She needed to be closer to her family. It was also her inspiration to be a teacher. Through further discussion with Mrs. Moore, a quote she said that struck me was: “If you wanna be good at something, you have to surround yourself with people who are better than you”–“that means to let go of your pride and be humble, be willing to learn, and keep an open mind.” I didn’t understand this at first, but the more I repeated it over and over, the more it started making sense.

When she started getting into teaching, the transition wasn’t as difficult because of her core beliefs: education, learning, and finding the next best thing. The way she wants to challenge students and help them out is such a powerful thing! She’s constantly thinking of ways to support her students.
